They say that necessity is the mother of invention and boy is that true, after spending more than twenty years in the brewing industry in some form or another, it was only natural that one day I would be a lucky chap and be a partner in my own brewery. Together with some really good friends, who had just as much history in the trade as me (actually I think they all had a lot more!), we started to plan how and where!
Work began on the White Horse Brewery in the summer of 2004, on a site we found in Stanford-in-the-vale in the Vale of the White Horse. We wanted to be as near to White Horse Hill as possible and on a good day you can see the horse sitting atop the hill, so this was clearly the best place! After three months of hard work we were ready to start brewing; we opened the doors in October 2004 and it as been an amazing experience ever since.
We have had some very interesting times in the past five years; people have come and gone, whilst making great contributions to the business along the way and the horse is still galloping at full tilt! The business is still growing well in the local area and by working with great companys like Morrisons super market and JD Wetherspoons, we are building a wider fan base of customers who all now know about the White Horse and what we’re about!
In 2008 we we’re lucky enough to acquire our own little pub in the heart of Oxford. Serving as our brewery tap, The Royal Blenheim stocks all of our beers and a fantastic variation of beers from small breweries country-wide. Being included in the Good Beer Guide 2009/10 after only 10 months was a fantastic achievement and we hope to build on this success in the future. Pop in, meet Mike & Jane and try one of the 10 beers on tap!
